PIDC presents national debate competition to discuss the most pressing issues in the country

The Philippine Inter-Collegiate Debating Championship (PIDC) is the national Asian Parliamentary debate competition hosted by the University of the Philippines Debate Society (UPDS) in the Philippines. Since its inception of PIDC in 2001, it has consistently been the largest collegiate debate tournament in the country, bringing together over 300+ student-debaters from universities and colleges across Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao each year. PIDC is renowned for providing the top-notch tournament experience: the highly-competitive debate rounds, lively social events, and an established brand of efficiency.

Moreover, PIDC provides a platform for the youth to discuss and engage the country’s most pressing issues with prominent figures from different sectors through the Issues Forum, an open forum and panel discussion open to tournament participants and the public. Previous speakers include Senator Franklin Drilon, award-winning journalist Patricia Evangelista, Professor Winnie Monsod and most recently, the 24th Chief Justice Ma. Lourdes Sereno and Senator Bam Aquino.

Now on its 18th year, UPDS hopes to provide the same unique and quality tournament experience to the PIDC participants as they compete for the prestigious national championship from June 7 to 12 at the University of the Philippines Diliman campus.

PIDC strives to create ripples of collective effort towards a discourse that is alive and powerful. It hopes to put these conversations into effective action—an action that moves across the waves of time, culture, and people. This action will set the nation in motion.

This #PIDC2019, we #SetTheMotion.
