Ateneo Psyche breaks the stigma against mental health and promotes psychology

Ateneo Psyche is the premier psychology organization in the Ateneo de Manila University. It is founded on the collective purpose of communicating psychological knowledge, advocating for mental health, and developing a community that places primary concern on the well-being of the human psyche. To conclude the past year of successful projects, the organization just had its annual Year Ender Ball last May 4, 2019. Serving as the seniors’ send-off, both current and alumni members were able to give a proper thank you to Psyche’s graduating members who have spearheaded its countless initiatives.

Focusing on its advocacy of mental health, one of its core initiatives are monthly visits to the National Center for Mental Health, where students are able to conduct social activities with schizophrenic patients. To do its part in raising funds for the NCMH, they also hold fundraisers such as #FtheStigma where they sell temporary tattoos, serving as symbols for mental health while helping raise awareness for its advocacy.

Some of Psyche’s projects that are open to all (even non-Ateneans) include Rendezvous, a party that incorporates attendees’ MBTI personality types, and RED Letter Day, which stands for ‘Respect, Equality, Diversity’ among all people in the community regardless of their gender and preferences, both held last Valentine’s season. The members of the organization were also volunteers for Pambansang Samahan sa Sikolohiyang Pilipino or PSSP, which aims to propagate the ‘Sikolohiyang Pilipino’ to different sectors of society as an interdisciplinary and Filipino perspective and method.

Aside from holding various events, Psyche is committed to broadening psychological knowledge through numerous workshops, as well as through the Psych X Series, which is a cross-discipline conference that showcases the application of Psychology in various fields. Its multiple online initiatives include Last Month in Psychology, which are Facebook posts that forward the most recent findings in the field of psychology. With more than a thousand psychology majors in the university, the Psyche page also serves as a distribution channel for psychology-related undergraduate thesis statements.
