InqPOP! partners with Netflix for the ‘Street Food Challenge’ in Poblacion, Makati

More than just a means of survival, food is also a form of communication. It communicates people’s unique lifestyle, beliefs, religion, values, societal trends, and national identity. So if you want to dive more into a country’s local culture, then you should start with street food first.

In the Philippines, we have a variety of street food which reflects our unique, colorful, and rich history. And in celebration of Netflix’s culinary docuseries titled “Street Food,” INQUIRER.net, InqPOP!, and Cebu Daily News held a “Street Food Challenge” in and around Tambai Alley in Poblacion, Makati City.

The items of street food that were featured in the challenge included Cebu’s famous bakasi (fried tiger reef eel), puso (steamed rice), and saang (spider shell), which were flown directly from the said province. Of course, the list of Pinoy street food will not be complete without the helmet (chicken head), adidas (chicken feet), isaw (chicken intestine), chorizo, and betamax (grilled coagulated chicken or pork blood).

The team roamed around the bustling streets of Poblacion to challenge the curious and the brave to eat what’s on the mystery platter in 60 seconds or less. Everyone who finished won a shirt, and 15 seconds of video fame on InqPOP!
