GESC presents ‘VantaGE: Foresighting Greater Paths Through Geodetic Engineering’ on its 11th year

First launched in 2009 by the University of the Philippines Geodetic Engineering Club, the Geodetic Engineering Students Conference (GESC) is an annual gathering of GE students from all over the country. It is primarily designed to provide a venue where the students and faculties discuss the re-emerging and latest trends and breakthroughs in the profession, and how these can be used to address a wide range of challenges in today’s society. Consequently, this conference also highlights the career opportunities that GE students may pursue after college.

For the past years, GESC was able to showcase different showcase endeavors from the UP Diliman academe, practice orientation and talks from GE companies, and even instrument demonstrations. The past conferences centered on the following themes.

2009: Industry Trends in Surveying

2010: DiGitizE: Digital Geodetic Engineering

2011: Greener Earth: Geodetic Engineering Towards Environmental Conservation

2012: Cutting EdGE: The Latest in the Field of Geodetic Engineering

2013: ArmaGEddon: Geodetic Engineering Towards Better Disaster Risk Reduction and Management

2014: Space Adventure: Geodetic Engineering Beyond Boundaries

2015: Hydrophilia: Geodetic Engineering and the Philippine Waters

2016: Geovations: Breakthroughs in Remote Sensing and GIS in the Philippines

2017: Georama: Broadening Perspectives in Geodetic Engineering

2018: LeveraGE: Bringing Geodetic Engineering to New Heights

On its eleventh year, the GESC will showcase the theme “VantaGE: Foresighting Greater Paths Through Geodetic Engineering”.

GESC 2019 will introduce GE students to the research, academe and the corporate world. The networks and connections that they build can help them forge greater paths in the geodetic engineering world. This year’s GESC will feature academe, government, research and corporate talks, a company mixer, GESC quiz show, student’s research presentation and a socials night.

For the longest time, Ideathon has been the only activity in GESC that allows students to present their ideas formed on the spot. This year, student will the chance to present their undergraduate research projects or on-going research to the GESC audience. This will give them the chance to hone their skills in presentation and also to share the applications of Geodetic Engineering to various fields.

GESC 2019 will be participated by 13 schools from all over the country and will be held on April 08-09, 2019 at the University of the Philippines – Diliman.
