The clock is ticking down for the holidays! With only 33 days before Christmas, it is time to celebrate, to love, and to make more memories before another year ends.
And let’s face it – we, Filipinos are famous for celebrating the longest Christmas season around the world! Since the Philippines is considered one of the largest Christian nations in the world, we proudly celebrate this holiday that commemorates the birth of Jesus Christ.
As early as September, you can already hear Christmas songs being played on the radio and even in the malls. On top of that, the unique holiday traditions of Filipinos include colorful lanterns, Misa de Gallo or Simbang Gabi, caroling, and gift-giving. This is also the season for “mano po” – a sign of respect in the Philippines, where children visit their godparents and receive gifts in return.
In the Catholic church, godparents are tasked with being good spiritual models to their godchildren. However, it seems that most people look at their godparents as their “Santa Claus” instead of their spiritual guardians.
Unfortunately, most ‘Ninangs’ and ‘Ninongs can’t escape their godchildren’s requests for “Aguinaldo.” To give you a quick laugh, we’ve rounded up some hilarious memes that you and your ‘Ninangs’ or ‘Ninongs’ will surely relate to this Yuletide season!
