Veteran character actor Jose Clemente “Nonong” De Andres passed away on Tuesday at age 71 in Plaridel, Quezon. In a Facebook post, Paolo Capino, the actor’s nephew, announced the sad news.
According to Capino, his uncle suffered emphysema and other illnesses before he died.
Before De Andres became popular for playing the role of a corpse, the Masbate native started his career in the entertainment industry as a layout artist for RVQ Productions, a company owned by the King of Comedy, Dolphy.
Dolphy made him an extra in “Kisame Street,” which also starred Nida Blanca and Panchito. From 1980s to 1990s, De Andres appeared in more than a hundred films, where he would frequently take the role of a “bangkay.”
In 2014, De Andres became part of ABS-CBN’s hit series, “Forevermore,” which starred Enrique Gil and Liza Soberano.
Undoubtedly, De Andres will always be remembered as a veteran character actor who made such contribution to Philippine’s entertainment industry.
