KZ, Gloc-9, IV of Spades Win Top Prizes at 31st Awit Awards

It was a night of surprises as the music industry celebrated the 31st Awit Awards last night at the New Frontier Theater.

KZ Tandingan bagged the top prize of “Album of the Year” for her album “Soul Supremacy,” while the “Record of the Year” Award went to IV of Spades for their single, “Hey Barbara.” The “Song of the Year” award went to Gloc9 for his composition, entitled “TRPKNNMN.”

On the other hand, Jona made Awit history by sweeping all digital categories – Most Downloaded Song for “You”, Most Downloaded Artist, Most Streamed Song for “Pusong Ligaw”, and Most Streamed Artist. Jona’s self-titled album also bagged the “Best-Selling Album of the Year” award based on combined physical and digital sales.

Meanwhile, millennials proved their diverse musical taste when they voted Ms. Regine Velasquez’s “Hugot” as the Favorite Performance by a Female Artist, and Mr. Ian Veneracion’s version of “Refrain” as their Favorite Performance by a New Male Artist.

Other big winners of the night were Moira dela Torre, who won “Best Performance by a Female Recording Artist” and “Favorite Song of the Year,” both for the song, “Titibo-tibo.” Moira also won “Best Song Written for Movie/TV/Stage Play” for “Saglit,” which she composed and recorded for the teleserye “The Better Half.”

Aside from “Record of the Year,” IV of Spades also won “Best Performance by a Group Recording Artist” for “Hey Barbara” and “Music Video of the Year” for “Where Have You Been, My Disco?”

Winning in their respective genres were Shantidope (Best Rap/Hiphop Recording), Ben&Ben (Best Inspirational Recording), Leanne & Naara (Best Pop Recording), Rivermaya (Best Rock/Alternative Recording), Morissette (Best Ballad Recording) , Nar Cabico (Best Novelty Recording), MOOPHS feat. Sam Concepcion (Best Dance Recording), Kris Lawrence (Best R & B Recording), and Karencitta (Best Regional Recording).

The band “Cinderella” was this year’s “Dangal ng Musikang Pilipino” Awardee. Accepting on their behalf was member Sunny Ilacad, after a tribute performance by Elha Nympha, Edray Teodoro and Sabrina, together with Miles Experience.
