In June 20, 2018, the Philippines has made a historic leap in enacting the 1st Philippine Mental Health Act of 2018. Indeed, there is no health without mental health.
The passage of the law is a substantial investment in development on a national scale ñ provision of more programs as well as services to the public in all hospitals be it psychiatric, psychosocial, or neurological, institutionalization of mental health promotion and education through integration of mental health to the school curriculum, and enhancement of our health system to integrate mental health services up to the community level.
Essential to this historical success are the organizations, individuals, schools, celebrities, advocates, and YOU for sustaining a collective voice and unified cause to ensure the passage of this law and your continued fight to promote and protect mental health in the Philippines.
This coming October 12, 2018, Friday, we, #MentalHealthPH, along with other mental health organizations and advocacy groups, will be hosting the World Mental Health Day 2018: Tagumpay Nating Lahat!
#MentalHealthPH is a social media advocacy that aims to promote and protect mental health in the Philippines. Through social media and other technology, we aim to engage discussion about mental health both online and offline; educate to #EndTheStigma against mental health; and improve access to mental health information, service, and care. Speakers of our event are Sen. Risa Hontiveros, author and principal sponsor of the Mental Health Law in the Senate, along with Congresswoman Cristina Roa-Puno, author and principal sponsor in Congress. Also speaking are ASec. Maria Rosario Vergeire of the Department of Health, Dr. Ron Resurreccion of the Psychological Association of the Philippines, Dr. Luzviminda Katigbak of the Philippine Psychiatric Association, Dr. Ronald Del Castillo of the DIWA Mental Health Survey, and Dr. Gia Sison of #HealthxPH. Ms. Christine Bersola-Babao is the lead convener of the event.
Mental health advocacy groups, organizations, advocates, and YOU are invited to come celebrate this success with us. Our event will be from 9AM to 5PM at 55 Events Place in Diliman, Quezon City. See you there, Mental Health Champions!
