The Society of Manufacturing Engineers will be holding its 4th annual Manufacturing Engineering Conference this October 13 at the MAPUA Gym, Intramuros, Manila.
The event, entitled “SIHAY: Biomanufacturing Technologies”, aims to bring together experts from the biomanufacturing industry and aspiring engineers that will be exposed to the field. The conference will be a series of talks from distinguished speakers about the applications of biotechnology and biology in the field of manufacturing. They are:
● Kenneth M. Kim completed his bachelor’s degree in Biology in the University of the Philippines – Baguio, and his master’s degree in Marine Science in the University of the Philippines – Diliman. He is also the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Co-Founder of Biotech-in-a-Box, which is a project initiative in collaboration with DOST-PCIEERD that aims to build the capacity of STEM educators in the country andenhance scientific literacy of students in biotechnology through inquiry-based kits. He is also the CEO and co-founder of another company, Arlekin Technologies, which is a scientific company that is strategically partnered with multinational sequencing facilities and has an extensive network of outstanding scientists, covering all research fields relevant to biological datasets, genomics and NGS.
● Dr. Denvert C. Pangayao completed a master’s degree in Environmental Engineering and Management, and a doctorate degree in chemical engineering in De La Salle University. He is also the Past Acting University Registrar of Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, and a consultant in the Coordination Mechanism and Awareness Raising: “National Implementation Plan (NIP) for Stockholm Convension on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs)”, a joint project of DENR-EMB and GEF-UNIDO
● Dr. Lemuel L. Tayo graduated from Pamantasang ng Lungsod ng Maynila with a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry. He also completed his master’s degree in Biochemistry in the University of the Philippines – Manila, and his doctorate degree in Marine Biotechnology in the University of the Philippines – Diliman.
Engineering students from the five SME student chapters (University of the Philippines Diliman, De La Salle University, Mapua Institute of Technology, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, and Bulacan State University), along with other top universities in the country will be participating. Prizes from sponsors will be given away.
