For excellence, leadership and selfless service, 10 young Filipinos were honored during the 57th Search for the Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines (TOSP) – NCR Awarding Ceremonies held last July 30, 2018, at the Fuller Hall of the Asian Institute of Management.

This year, the awardees are Katrina Chan (ADMU), Joseph Daniel Dantes (UP-Diliman), Mikee Karina De Vega (DLSU), Rose Jade Delgado (LPU), Romeo Latoza Jr. (PUP), Mark Daniele Mabalay (JRU), Paula Manuel (FEU-Manila), Marielle Mataya (UE-Manila), Maria Gieniv Valeriano (UST) and Lee Edson Yarcia (UP-Diliman).

Senator Bam Aquino, who served as keynote speaker, highlighted the importance of holistic growth of one’s mind, body and spirit. “The formula for being outstanding is to develop the spirit of excellence (mind). It’s not enough that you are a great thinker; you also have to be a great doer, and go for effectiveness (body). Above all, true leadership is when you put your people at the center of what you do (spirit).”

Since 1961, Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines (TOSP) has been one of the most prestigious student awards in the Philippines and over the years, has formed 10 regionalized areas, one of which being the Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines Alumni Community – NCR (TOSPAC-NCR). Every year, ten students are chosen nationwide based on their leadership track record, academic excellence and social responsibility efforts.

Regional winners will undergo the national screening process and from there, the 10 national awardees will be selected and honored by the incumbent president in Malacañan palace.

More than just the awards program and the annual formation program which every finalist goes through, TOSPAC-NCR continues its movement for nation-building, with almost 200 outstanding alumni, by partnering with academic institutions, government bodies and other organizations through various engagements such as leadership trainings, organization design, and development consulting. It has to date, partnered with more than 45 institutions, the largest of which was the Department of Education. TOSPAC-NCR aims to be the premiere youth organization – purely run by volunteers – spearheading youth engagement and promoting everyday heroism in the region, and across the country.
