This year’s Japanese rice paddy art features 1950s iconic characters

Who says farming can’t be artsy?

In Japan’s Aomori Prefecture, the residents have been keeping a yearly tradition of creating rice paddy art or tambo art. For this year’s art, a pair of rice fields were dedicated to two iconic characters from the 1950s.

The first rice field features a scene from the classic film Roman Holiday, where Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck are riding a vespa and sharing a tender moment with each other. The second field pays tribute to acclaimed Japanese manga artist, Osamu Tezuka, as it features Astro Boy striking his signature pose along with other characters created by Tezuka.
