Four locally-made wines that can accompany you on your cold nights-in

Some nights, you’d just rather replace that glass of margarita or bottle of beer especially when you’re all alone and you want to be kept warm. Well, you don’t need a person to keep you warm when wine can do just that for you, right?

While you’re at it, might as well try wine that our country produces with its own homegrown ingredients! Here are some that you might want to try:

Basi

When people first hear of Ilocos, they immediately think bagnet or longganisa. However, one of the things that the locals take pride in is their Basi wine, which is wine made from fermented sugarcane. People have been consuming this drink way before the Spanish colonization, so you’ll get a taste of history too!

 

Coffee Wine

Why reserve your cup of coffee for the morning if you can have it with wine at night, too? The coffee produced for the wine reportedly comes from Cavite, as the province is known for its fine coffee beans. Now the question is, will this drink keep you up or will it still make you sleepy?

 

Dimbeng

Aside from the cold temperature and high mountains that Baguio can offer, they also take advantage of their strawberry resource in La Trinidad by turning them into the wine called Dimbeng. It’s not a surprise that strawberry wine is La Trinidad’s OTOP (One Town, One Product). This is perfect for those who love sweet and fruity wines!

 

Cashew Wine

Palawan is usually known for its white-sand beaches and beautiful bodies of water. However, they are also the top supplier of cashew, and so we’re not surprised they created wine out of it. The wine is produced from the fermented juice extract of cashew apples. More reason to head to the beach!
