Here’s why you should try a ‘capsule wardrobe’

First, what’s a Capsule Wardrobe? The term was coined by London boutique owner Susie Faux and popularized by designer Donna Karan. The idea is to own a wardrobe of minimal, classic clothing, shoes, and accessories that you can mix and match to create several looks. A capsule wardrobe can help to create your signature style as well as save you a lot of money spent on pieces you might not even wear. Having a standard set of clothes that you know you’ll wear for the year or for a certain season can lesson those “I don’t know what to wear!” moments in the mornings. Here are two steps to begin your capsule wardrobe journey:

Get Your Basics Down
When choosing which pieces to have in your collection, think about which types of clothing you wear the most. For some, one or two good suits are enough while others like corporate office workers need at least five. Some people can live on two pairs of jeans while others like to wear them every day. Many people work with numbered pieces of clothing ranging from 30-50 pieces, while others work by color palettes.

Accent Your Signature Style
When you have an idea of what your basics are, any new items to introduce to your collection should augment or add a little flair to your style. This can be in the form of a pop of color or statement accessories to spice up your look. Remember that these should work well with your existing collection.
