WATCH: 10-year coma prank serves as a wake-up call to this drunk-driver

Driving under the influence (DUI) is one of the main causes of road accidents that sometimes leads to fatalities. According to the 2017 data of Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), an average of 34 Filipinos are killed in road accidents every day, and it is the main cause of deaths among youths aged 15 to 19. In Metro Manila alone, one person is killed in a road crash every 17 hours. This won’t stop as long as there’s someone carelessly driving while under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

Drivers who go on the road while intoxicated are putting themselves and innocent civilians in danger. And to teach someone a lesson against drunk-driving, a team of YouTubers planned an epic prank to make him think he’s been in a coma for 10 years.

A 2013 video of Tom Mabe recently resurfaced online, where he pulled a prank on his friend “Ray” who had five arrests for DUI in the past and was heading towards his sixth as he continuously gets black-out drunk. To teach him a lesson, Mabe planned an elaborate prank where he made Ray believe he was in a coma for 10 years after getting into a car accident.

When Ray passed out after binge-drinking, he woke up to an office turned hospital room where a doctor approached him and said that the accident took place in 2013 and it is now 2023. A fake news story about Miley Cyrus, Hillary Clinton, and Justin Bieber set 10 years in the future also played on the TV to make the setup more convincing.

Mabe, who disguised himself as a doctor, steps in to tell him about what happened and to inform him that his family has been contacted and are now on their way. Mabe conducted several “tests” to know if he can still feel things. He then slapped him in the face and Ray laughed as he realized who the doctor really was.

“It’s not funny. You could’ve lost your daughter, ten years could’ve been wasted away here,” Mabe told Ray—asking him to think about the gravity of his actions and his apparent drinking problem. “Dude, you’ve got to stop doing it.”
