Cosplay is a popular hobby of dressing up as a specific character from an anime, a cartoon, a comic book, a video game, or a live-action film. The term “cosplay” is a portmanteau of the phrase “costume play” and was first coined in Japan in 1984. Since then, cosplaying has been popular among otakus and has played a significant role in Japanese pop culture.
Cosplayers are usually between 13 to 40 years old. But this photographer mom decided to introduce her daughter to cosplaying at a very early age — too early even for her to know what cosplaying is!
Laura Izumikawa dresses up her baby named Joey during naptime, takes a picture, and uploads it on Instagram. At times, she also uploads behind-the-scenes for every shot.
What she wasn’t expecting was that her posts will eventually become viral. At the moment, she has over 600K followers on her Instagram and also released a photo book called “Naptime with Joey” featuring the different shots of her daughter all dressed up.
Check out some of her baby’s adorable “napping cosplay” looks!
