PUP students hold academic seminar for Banking and Finance

The Department of Banking and Finance – College of Accountancy and Finance of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines anually holds an Academic Seminar for each year-level to equip and provide its students the enthusiasm for their chosen field and future profession.

Class Representatives from the 18 sections, headed by their Third-Year Representatives Anne Kathreen Virata and Bonifacia Dellemar Garcia are the people behind this year’s academic seminar held at Bulwagang Balagtas, Ninoy Aquino Library and Learning Research Center on November 28, 2017. This year’s academic seminar aimed to develop the knowledge and skills of the Third-year Financce major students abou personal Finance, such as how to control, invest, and protect their finances. With the theme “Gearing Up Towards Financial Literacy for the Youth,” attendees were expected to learn from the invited Speakers the new tips and techniques of investing.

Registration started at exactly 1:00pm. The program started with the Doxology followed by the singing of the Philippine National Anthem and the singing of the PUP Hymn led by the JFinEx Elite Singers. Prof. Bernadette M. Panibio, Chairperson of the Department of Banking and Finance officially commenced the event with her welcoming remarks.

Mr. Niko S. Gallego, a licensed Civil Engineer and also a licensed Financial Advisor of PRU Life UK, shared his investing tips and discussed about the basics in investing in his presentation entitled, “Unit and Variable Ink”.

Subsequently, the Founder of BoH Society and an independent Potfolio Manager, Mr. Jitendra Rafael Mojica talked about the basic principles of FX trading and “Pros and Cons of FX Trading”.

The third and last Speaker for the event, Ms. Shiela Ann T. Celario, Co-Founder and CEO of Thotbox Inc. and a Certified Public Accountant dicussed about financial planning in her presentation “Invest in What You Love” and shared the Five Steps to help you invest in what you love regularly. She ended her talk with an advice to the attendees, “Let your Goal Pull you, Let your burning Desire Push you, and Let Financial Literacy Guide you towards Financial Freedom”.

Attendees were given a chance to ask qeuries regarding the topics in an open forum with the Resource Speakers. Afterwards, there were raffle promos for the gifts from the generous sponsors such as Vivo, Mogu-Mogu, Krispy Kreme, The Fragrance Collections, Trampoline Park, and Aspire Philippines.

The seminar ended with the awarding of certificates of appreciation to the Organizers, their dance presentation and a closing message by the Third-year Representatives.
