Cosplay is definitely on the rise—passionate and talented folks paying homage to their own heroes, the fighters of good and evil. And underneath these costumes are people with a voice. This is what roused a group of cosplayers to make use of the strong local geek and cosplay community to make an impact and bring more value to putting themselves out there for the world to see.
“As a geek and cosplayer it hasn’t been sitting well with me that we consume a lot of media of heroes that fight for good…yet we haven’t used our passions to make something about the injustices that’re currently happening to our country,” said Maronne Cruz, leader of the movement A Hero’s Call.
A Hero’s Call gathers and encourages the said community to be brave and be publicly political in costume. So far, around 20 ‘heroes’ are already onboard in the released photo series found in the group’s Facebook page https://facebook.com/AHerosCallPh, that went public Sept. 21st, in time for the commemoration of the Martial Law and International Peace Day.
“In a time when villains are very real, it’s time to become our own heroes. It doesn’t matter who you are or what you’re into, if you have a voice and if you have passion, you can use it for good. Especially since we need more people engaging in the discussion about what’s happening and searching or ways to make a change,” Said Cruz.
