So are they “smooth peanut butter” now?
No one would have thought that a popular sandwich spread would be the key to unlocking the doors of a prison in Walker County, Alabama that enabled 12 offenders to escape last Sunday night.
These guys were imaginative enough to use peanut butter to change the number on one of the cell doors. In doing so, it looked like the prisoners are outside of their cells and they needed to come in. They convinced the new jail guard, who was monitoring them using closed-circuit television, to open the door for them so they can “come in” when in fact, they are going out.
Crazy right?
The Walker County Sheriff confirmed that, “…changing numbers on doors with peanut butter – It may sound crazy, but these kinds of people are crazy like a fox.”
And it seemed that their “crazy” idea helped them to outsmart the guards that some people couldn’t help but poke fun at the whole thing:
Others found the whole situation unbelievable and suggested that it should be further investigated.
They don’t have to worry because all the twelve escapees were recaptured. Using a “peanut butter” for their prison break may have made the whole thing appear light, but the sheriff said that the “…officials would look again at placing a young person in [a] control area to make decisions for 140 inmates.” He also added that “…the camera system also needs to be equipped with more monitors.”
As to restrictions of peanut butter, the sheriff said that they won’t be doing that since “they [prisoners] love peanut butter sandwiches.”
Well, sheriff, just make sure they won’t pull that “peanut butter trick” on you again!
