Filipino drag queens are best known for challenging social conventions and breaking down barriers, using their art and platform to inspire others and promote inclusivity and acceptance. However, there’s one thing they can’t defy: gravity.
Drag queens Manza and Izzy Xtra went viral on social media after their performance of Wicked’s hit “Defying Gravity” took an unexpected turn.
In the video uploaded on Facebook, the two queens could be seen performing an aerial performance in a club with the film’s defining soundtrack in the background. After a few seconds of being held in the air, it appeared that the harness broke, causing Manza and Izzy to fall on stage.
The video, which garnered over 3 million views as of this writing, drew concerns from netizens who hoped that the queens recovered after the fall.
Some, on the other hand, poked fun, with some saying that the fall was a new definition of “death drop” (a dance move popular in the ballroom scene) and that gravity decided to respond to their performance.
All these jokes aside, we do hope that our queens were okay after this because that fall was pretty painful.
