Commuters have been flocking to test-ride the LRT-1 Cavite extension that was recently opened last November 16, and many social media users shared how it reduced their travel time immensely.

A post on X/ formerly known as Twitter mentioned how their Paranaque to Manila commute time was reduced to only 18 minutes.
it usually takes about an hour to an hour and a half depending on traffic whenever we ride a bus from morayta to pitx, yesterday it only took us about 20 minutes 🥹 as an exhausted commuter girly this is such a life saver https://t.co/hfFA8Tw2w8

Another social media user shared how the usual hour to an hour and a half bus ride from Morayta to PITX took them about 20 minutes after trying the new train extension.
Commuters seem to be demanding for more railway projects since it just proves that it can provide efficient travel for everyone.
This is why, I am perplexed why we are not building more rail lines. There should be more rail line projects than road projects.

Lord I need more Filipinos to be more obsessed with trains than cars so we can fast track the development of the rail system not just in manila but also inter-province and inter-region. We NEED trains going from one province to another https://t.co/iWTNTnOMzv

the day we will see this country’s economy astronomically develop is when the proposed railways are finished https://t.co/pCC7OLNHDa

Tapos malalaman mo pa may gagawa ng highway along laguna lake instead of funneling all funds into our rail systems. 🫠
Like u can literally capture ALL Filipinos and even FOREIGN VISITORS as ur market instead of only “citizens with cars” if boosting tourism is ur goal. https://t.co/wRreDrLUxw

There are others who are looking forward to the opening of MRT-7, which is aimed for completion by 2028.
We Fairview people will tweet next year how Fairview-North EDSA travel time is reduced to just 30-40 minutes from 90-120 minutes because of MRT 7.
This will tip over public opinion on rails probably. https://t.co/8YTx6muqvb

However, there were some that placed concern for the communities affected by the building of the LRT-1 Cavite extension, where many families were reportedly displaced:
ganito ang itsura ang komunidad ng bacoor zapote 3 kung saan itatayo ang LRT-1 Cavite extension. napakaraming komunidad ang masasagasaan ng proyektong ito. Pagkatapos sadyang sunugin ngayon ay may nangyayaring ng demolisyon sapilitang pagpapakalayas sa mga lokal at harassment + pic.twitter.com/ozTZDeIqD5

According to the Global Competitiveness report in 2019, Philippines ranked lowest rated in railway services in Asia, with a score of only 2.4 and ranking 86th out 101 globally.
Manila also ranked 60th in terms of public transit out of 65 key cities worldwide in 2023.
The ranking was part of the fifth edition update of the international study called “Urban Mobility Index” wherein the mobility preparedness of these cities was analyzed.
With the recent and future developments of transportation in the country, public transportation might serve as the most efficient travel method soon.
