Linkin Park announces new lead singer and album after seven-year hiatus

In a highly anticipated comeback, the influential rap-rock band Linkin Park has announced its return to the music scene, revealing a new lead singer and an upcoming album. This reunion marks the band’s first major project since the tragic death of their former frontman, Chester Bennington, in 2017.

Linkin Park’s lineup has undergone significant changes since their last release. Emily Armstrong, formerly of the Los Angeles-based rock band Dead Sara, has been announced as the band’s new lead vocalist. Armstrong’s appointment brings a fresh dynamic to the group’s sound. Additionally, the band has welcomed Colin Brittain as its new drummer, replacing Rob Bourdon. Brittain, known for his work as a songwriter and producer, joins the surviving members of the original lineup: rapper and producer Mike Shinoda, guitarist Brad Delson, DJ Joe Hahn, and bassist Phoenix.

The band will release a new studio album titled ‘From Zero’ on November 15, 2024. This album, which will be the first since ‘One More Light’—released shortly before Bennington’s death—features 11 tracks, including the lead single, “The Emptiness Machine.” The new record represents both a tribute to their past and a bold step forward in their musical journey.

In a statement, Mike Shinoda reflected on the significance of the album title, explaining that ‘From Zero’ symbolizes a new beginning and a return to the band’s origins. He elaborated, “The title refers to both this humble beginning and the journey we’re currently undertaking. Sonically and emotionally, it is about past, present, and future—embracing our signature sound, but new and full of life. It was made with a deep appreciation for our new and longtime bandmates, our friends, our family, and our fans.”

Linkin Park’s return is set to be marked by a global tour, starting with a performance at Inglewood’s Kia Forum on September 11, 2024. The tour will include stops in major cities such as New York, Hamburg, London, Seoul, and Bogota. This tour promises to reconnect the band with their international fanbase and celebrate their musical evolution.

The band’s decision to reunite and continue their musical journey comes after years of reflection and an effort to rekindle the creative spirit that initially drove them. Their 2017 tribute show for Chester Bennington, which featured performances by notable acts such as Blink-182, No Doubt, and Korn, remains a poignant reminder of the impact Bennington had on both the band and the music industry at large.

As Linkin Park steps into this new chapter, their fans and the broader music community await with bated breath, eager to witness the next phase of a band that has left an indelible mark on the landscape of rock music.
