Maisy Kay reflects on her first visit to the Philippines and her experience touring as Tori Kelly’s opening act

On August 23, 2024, Maisy Kay held a press conference at Novotel Manila Araneta City, where she captivated attendees with insights into her latest single, Technicolor Honeymoon, and her experiences as an emerging artist. Dressed in a sleek black bodycon dress adorned with a butterfly pin on her left chest, Maisy exuded both elegance and charm as she sat with the press for an interview.

When asked about the inspiration behind Technicolor Honeymoon, Maisy shared that the song is a reflection of her own life, specifically the whirlwind romance she’s experiencing for the first time as an adult. “I wrote Technicolor Honeymoon because of the whirlwind and exciting romance that I’ve been experiencing for the first time as an adult, which is really exciting and really new to me. I’ve never felt that way in my life before,” she explained.

The song, she revealed, wasn’t a deliberate creation but rather something that came naturally as she navigated her emotions. The title Technicolor Honeymoon came to her mind before the song was fully formed, symbolizing a vibrant and love-filled vacation.

Beyond the romance, Maisy touched on the evolving themes in her music, noting a growing fascination with animalistic and natural elements. She mentioned her fondness for butterflies, both as a symbol in her branding and as a personal hobby, sharing that she raises them at home.

Maisy’s visit to Manila included a memorable performance on the Wishbus, which she described as an unforgettable experience, “It was really cool. It was fun seeing everyone outside the actual bus waving. It was a really cool experience,” Maisy said.

She also expressed her appreciation for the fans, praising their respectful demeanor during the event, “Everyone was really respectful, everyone made sure that everyone had a moment to get a picture and you don’t always see that, so it was really nice.”

A highlight of the press conference was Maisy’s reaction to being chosen as the opening act for Tori Kelly’s Purple Skies Tour. She admitted that she hadn’t expected such an opportunity, believing she wouldn’t have any concert to perform at this year, “It’s been really cool to be part of this tour. I’ve learned so much. The crowd has been wonderful. Tori is so sweet, and so talented. Oh, my God! She’s so wonderful. It’s been a really heartwarming experience for me,” Maisy shared, expressing her excitement and gratitude.

During her time in the Philippines, Maisy also had the chance to try a local delicacy—Lengua de Gato—which she found delightful, “I haven’t tried any Filipino dish, but when we arrived at the radio station they gave me this food called Lengua de Gato. I had that for the first time and it was very delicious.”

Looking ahead, Maisy revealed that she is working hard finishing her next EP, ‘Wanderlust the Dust’, set to be released later this year as a continuation of the story started with ‘Technicolor Honeymoon’. Additionally, she expressed her desire to collaborate with fellow artist Chappell Roan.

The event was made possible by Amplified Entertainment.
