SHEield: Building a fortress against violence

The Mu Sigma Phi Sorority Batch 2028 proudly presents SHEield (Safeguarding Her Environment through Initiatives for Education, Life Skills, and Defense): Advocating Rights, Ensuring Women’s Safety. This groundbreaking initiative aims to combat Violence Against Women (VAW) in the Philippines by empowering women with knowledge, skills, and support and helping create a safer community for all.

On August 24, 2024, SHEield will take place at the IFI Conference Center, Ermita, Manila from 1:00 PM to 5:30 PM, offering a comprehensive workshop that includes expert-led educational sessions, a self-defense workshop, and skills development activities. SHEIELD brings together a roster of leading experts to shed light on the complex issue of violence against women in the Philippines. Participants also learn essential self-defense techniques from certified instructors and receive a certificate from Self-Defense Manila upon completion. Free medical consultations are also available on-site for those interested. Participants can also enjoy the interactive booths, engaging life skills activities, and exciting prizes, adding an extra layer of fun to the event.

Empowering Women, Supporting a Worthy Cause

SHEield is more than just a workshop; it is a commitment to foster a more supportive community aimed at dismantling the chains of violence and creating a more compassionate world. A portion of the proceeds from SHEield will benefit Sentro ng Alternatibong Lingap Panligal (SALIGAN), a renowned non-profit organization dedicated to empowering women and ensuring they receive the protection and justice they deserve.

SALIGAN is involved in numerous advocacies, including offering legal support to women facing gender-based violence and discrimination, providing legal education training to officials and service providers to aid victims and address gender-based violence within communities, and advocating for the enactment of laws and policies that promote gender equality.

By partnering with SALIGAN, SHEield aims to help the organization continue its crucial work in supporting victims of gender-based violence and advocating for women’s rights. In addition to providing financial assistance, SHEield also aims to raise awareness SALIGAN’s programs, particularly those with a strong focus on women’s rights and gender equality, and contribute significantly to SALIGAN’s mission of creating a just and equitable society for all women.
