Stand-up comedian Atsuko Okatsuka made the most out of her time in Manila by riding a jeepney for the first time during her visit in the country.
In an Instagram post, the comedian shared a video of her experience riding the vehicle. “What’s up guys. I’m in a Jeepney. That’s pretty much their public transportation. A bus,” she wrote.
“You ever been in a bus where the windows are all open whole? You ever been in a bus there’s a hole in the back? Welcome to the Philippines,” she continued.
She compared the jeepney to a roller coaster that is more than just a ride and said, “This is like a roller coaster except it gets you to work. Come on. How fun is that?”
The comedian also made a friend along the way as she talked to a passenger who gave a seal of approval that they are now indeed friends.
Filipinos on social media took to the comments to share a warm welcome to her visiting the country.
One user wrote, “When you said “its safe” i cried laughing, welcome to the PH🔥🔥🔥”
Another user wrote, “ You say, “Para po” when you want the jeep to top. 🙌😂 Enjoy @atsukocomedy”
A third user wrote, “Thank you @atsukocomedy for showing love to our “king of the streets.” They are currently on the verge of being phased out due to the govt’s modernization program that Jeepney drivers can’t afford. I hope you also join us in our struggle keep them. #NoToJeepneyPhaseout”
Okatsuka recently held her sold-out “Full Grown Tour” here in the country last July 13 and 14 at the Samsung Hall at SM Aura in Bonifacio Global City.
The comedian made her stand-up debut on “The Late Late Show with James Corden.” She was named Variety’s “Top 10 Comics to Watch” in 2022 and most known for her stand-up special “The Intruder.”
