Social media uproar after huskies given chocolate cake at celebration, owner responds

Fur parents and non-dog owners alike expressed outrage over a social media post showing dogs eating a chocolate cake.

In a now-deleted post, the owners were seen celebrating with their huskies, marking three years of being together.

The caption read, “Happy 3rd Barkday Kelly, Whiskey, Stacey, Zoey, and Brylle,” which was also inscribed on the cake that the dogs were seen getting a taste of.

However, this celebration quickly turned into a learning session for the owners after social media users pointed out that chocolate is harmful to dogs. Many criticized the owners for not knowing this, especially after three years of pet ownership, noting that even non-dog owners are aware of this common fact.

Some users also suggested that if the owners wanted to treat their dogs with cake, they should have opted for a cake specifically designed for dogs, rather than buying one from a local brand that doesn’t cater to pets, as seen in the post.

As concerns continued to rise with news claiming that the huskies had died after the incident, the owner of the dogs, Emierry Castelo Clave, who is also responsible for posting the viral post, went live, claiming that the dogs were safe and alive.

She also recently posted a TikTok video showing one of her dogs in good condition, stating in the caption that Filipinos are easy targets for fake news.

Now, it’s uncertain whether all the dogs were actually alive at the time of the posting, as only two dogs were visible in the viral posts, while two urns were present, labeled with the names “Stacey” and “Whiskey.”

However, when a user asked about the other dogs, the owner replied that they were also doing well and that she was willing to provide an update on the condition of all five dogs.

This incident serves as an important reminder for pet owners to be well-informed about which foods are safe for their pets. Dogs lack the ability to process theobromine, a compound found in chocolate, which can be lethal to them even in small amounts. However, besides chocolate, there are various other foods that can pose a threat to them. It’s imperative to research online or consult your local veterinarian to ensure that the foods they consume are safe for them.
