Korean actress Koo Hye-Sun’s acting career sky-rocketed when she appeared in the 2009 famous Korean drama Boys Over Flowers as the female lead together with Lee Min Ho and Kim Bum. The success of the drama opened doors for her that leads her to multiple main roles in different dramas like Blood which where she met her now ex-husband Ahn Jae-Hyun. Aside from her acting career, Hye-Sun was actually a former idol trainee under SM Entertainment but unfortunately, this did not work out for her.
Due to her decision to step away from the limelight, Hye-Sun announced she would be leaving the industry to focus more on her education. After a long period of absence, the actress revealed on the tvN variety show “Real or Reel” that she is currently living in her car.
“I don’t have any place to live. I actually don’t have a home right now. My mother’s house is in Incheon and I keep going back and forth from there. On exams and important days, I stay in my own car or sleep in the library. Going from Incheon to school takes 3-4 hours so I have to leave home at 6:30 a.m. for classes that start at 9 a.m,” and because of this reason, she decided to just live in her car that is parked in her school’s parking lot.
“I thought, ‘Since I’m already here, why not try to be the No.1 in studying?’. I don’t accept things like being late or absent so I always arrive at school 2-3 hours early,” she added.
Upon learning about the actress’s living situation, the hosts of the show expressed concern about her well-being and how she managed to survive in such conditions. In response, Hye-Sun proudly displayed certificates of her academic achievements, showcasing her almost perfect scores and her placement in the top 5% of her department. This further fueled her sense of pride, as she found fulfillment despite the sacrifices she had made. Additionally, she revealed during the show that some scripts she had written while on hiatus from the industry had been picked up by Netflix.
Her dedication to her studies proves that Hye-Sun is focused on achieving more for herself and her family. “In a way, I was a successful daughter, but I also faced many failures. Their biggest dream is that I complete my studies and graduate. I might not be able to work a lot. I want to pursue a doctor’s degree and it will take 7-8 years. Once I get the degree, I might do something different from what I’m doing now,” she stated.
However, after seeing the public’s reaction to her living in her car, Hye Sun addressed the issue and shared that she is actually in the process of building a house near the school and has also bought her family a house. The actress is being mindful of her money, prioritizing spending on important things like education and necessities.
