A Facebook user called out a local specialty restaurant, for their staff’s ‘racist’ note written on his receipt, which he received last Wednesday while dining with friends.
He claimed to have gotten a receipt with a note at the bottom: “Sa naka-black na nakauupo sa 14 kulot ang buhok kamukha ni Black Jack [to the one in black, sitting at (table)14, curly hair, who looks like Black Jack]”
The late rapper-comedian Blakdyak, whose father is half-Jamaican, is likely the subject of reference for the “Black Jack” part.
“This behavior was exhibited by one of their staff members, who took it upon herself to make remarks about my appearance based on my racial background. As an individual of Nigerian and Filipino descent, I know I’m different. But was the note necessary?” Michael said.
Additionally, the client claimed that when he first asked for the original receipt, he was turned down.
“At first, the manager DID NOT WANT to give it back saying excuses like “natapon na po” [it was thrown away] or nawawala na. Wala na system [it went missing, it’s not in the (cashier) system anymore]” he said.
Even though the manager assured him that the waitress would receive discipline, Michael claimed he was “unsatisfied with the resolution provided” and departed the establishment.
“Merely reprimanding the staff member in question does not address the broader issue of fostering a culture of inclusivity and respect within their restaurant. I am posting this for awareness against racism or any form of judgment [or] bias passed to strangers,” he said.
“Who knows how many black people they have done this to? Is this the standard of customer service for North Park? They apologized, yes, but what lessons can we learn from this experience?” the Facebook user added.
Although he acknowledges that everyone has opinions of their own, Michael advised people to keep them to themselves and “be mindful not to act upon it.”
He ended his statement with “Di kailangan isulat sa resibo and worse, i-hand over sa customer mo pa mismo [You don’t need to write it on the receipt, and worse, you have to hand it over to the customer yourself.]”
The racist treatment did not sit well with many social media users.
The restaurant has yet to respond regarding the controversy.
