10-year-old girl encourages kids to stand up against bullies with “Flexin’ In My Complexion” clothing line

More than one out of five students report that they have been bullied either for their looks (55%), body shape (37%), or race (16%). The number of cases of cyberbullying have also grown considerably in the past decade.

One of the kids who has experienced bullying is 10-year-old Kheris Rogers. She shared that she’s been bullied often when she was in the first grade because of her skin color. There was even an incident wherein her teacher bullied her by giving her a black crayon instead of a brown one. These experiences made Rogers feel very uncomfortable about her own skin.

But an encouraging viral Twitter post by her sister became a turning point for Rogers.

It didn’t only help her feel better about herself, she was also motivated to launch her own clothing line — Flexin’ In My Complexion. She said that she wanted “…to inspire people to love their skin color.”

Her parents funded it and they’ve already started selling shirts last month!

Rogers further added that now that she has her own clothing line, she feels more confident about herself: “I feel confident in it myself because, even if I still get picked on because I’m darker, when I put on the T-shirt, it makes me feel bold.”

This girl definitely knows how to flex in her complexion and inspire kids!
