Since the K-pop star’s military enlistment last December 11, 2023, BTS member V, real name Kim Taehyung, would sometimes upload updates regarding his military service for his fans. However, a recent post revealed that Taehyung was part of a promotional video of the 2nd Army Corps in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province, which showcased the star’s skills in handling and using guns. The pictures of V, clad in black uniform worn by Special Forces, have ignited a debate among fans.

While some applauded his position in the elite group, others thought that K-pop idols should not be associated with “propaganda” that supports the military.

Many were disturbed to see V being utilized in what they deem as military propaganda. In addition, may fans find that it doesn’t conform to BTS’ previous positions on issues. It can be remembered that in a previous campaign called “LOVE MYSELF,” BTS teamed up with UNICEF to raise awareness about ending violence and donate millions of dollars.
Some ARMYs also tried to put context to the subject within their culture. They even provided a more in-depth background detail. They emphasized that, officially speaking, South Korea is at war, clarifying the Korean point of view due to the mandatory military service that Korean men must fulfil. K-pop and other military propaganda are frequently used to raise spirits.
