J.K. Rowling says ‘no forgiveness’ for Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson over views on trans rights

J.K. Rowling recently reiterated her stance on transgender rights, sparking renewed controversy. Specifically, she voiced her opposition towards celebrities like Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson who openly support trans rights and the transitioning of minors. This rekindled debate has strained her relationships with fellow actors from the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts franchises, including Rupert Grint, Bonnie Wright, and Eddie Redmayne, alongside Radcliffe and Watson.

After the author’s remarks in 2020, Radcliffe penned an essay for the Trevor Project, an LGBTQ+ organization, while Watson expressed her support for the community in a tweet.

On April 10, J.K. Rowling continued the discourse by posting a thread about her insights on X regarding Dr. Hilary Cass’ medical review entitled ‘Independent review of gender identity services for children and young people: Final report.’The study suggests that abuse, mental health issues, and false information online can intensify gender dysphoria, but it remains treatable through appropriate counseling, guidance, and hormonal medication.

“And if I sound angry, it’s because I’m bloody angry. I read Cass this morning and my anger’s been mounting all day. Kids have been irreversibly harmed, and thousands are complicit, not just medics, but the celebrity mouthpieces, unquestioning media, and cynical corporations. 5/6,” she wrote.

“I thought the last tweet was going to be my last, but I just burst into tears. The #CassReview may be a watershed moment, but it comes too late for detransitioners who’ve written me heartbreaking letters of regret. Today’s not a triumph, it’s the laying bare of a tragedy. 7/7,” she continued.

A user then responded to the thread, expressing anticipation for a public apology from Radcliffe and Watson, expecting that Rowling would forgive them.

“Just waiting for Dan and Emma to give you a very public apology…safe in the knowledge that you will forgive them,” the user wrote.

However, J.K. Rowling kept her head high and replied, “Not safe, I’m afraid.” She continued to express cold-shoulder, saying, “Celebs who cosied up to a movement intent on eroding women’s hard-won rights and who used their platforms to cheer on the transitioning of minors can save their apologies for traumatised detransitioners and vulnerable women reliant on single sex spaces.”
