Taco shop in Makati left with excess food after big brand makes last-minute cancellation

A known taco shop in Makati, OnlyPans Taqueria, was left with a mountain of food for 400 people after a big brand that initially partnered with them for an event made a last-minute cancellation.

The restaurant posted a statement on Facebook last December 7 which reads, “Due to a major brand’s last-minute cancellation, we have surplus catering for 400 people, originally planned to be served this weekend. We’re not a big restaurant with a massive commissary, and this has left us with excess stock.”

“Initially booked for 400 people in a vibrant food truck style, the sudden change led to a revised order of 80 pax after signing a contract for 200 pax. Despite this challenge, we remain committed to providing exceptional service,” their statement continued.

They concluded their statement by urging brands to be more transparent with their partnerships and wrote, “If you need catering this Saturday, reach out – we’re ready to serve you with our quality offerings. We also urge brands, big and small, to uphold transparency in partnerships. Contact us via direct message. Thank you for your understanding and support.”

People took to the comment section to share their disappointment with the said situation.

Upon learning about the unfortunate incident, the burger restaurant “Hungry Homies,” also located in Makati, came to the rescue by making space for them and allowing them to have a pop-up shop last December 9.

The CEO and founder of OnlyPans Taqueria, Audrey Cruz, took to the comment section of the posted statement to thank those who helped during this challenging time.

Her comment wrote, “Thank the heavens for our community for pulling through. May this be a lesson to all my entrepreneur friends & my brand-side friends that this shouldn’t be the case on anyone. Really grateful for those who contacted me for the surplus catering.”

She also took this time to say a message to brands and wrote, “For brands, it’s also time for y’all to stop low-balling businesses, big or small, business is business. Again, I’m so grateful for my community. Let’s not ask for the brand reveal anymore. Let’s just give this to them.”

Cruz ended her post by writing, “Hope this never happens to all our fellow businesses.”

Update:

The owner of the taco shop responded to POP!’s coverage, emphasizing her shop’s commitment to transparency. She clarified that the brand eventually proceeded with 200 pax, not the initially agreed-upon 400, and dismissed any notion of intending to harm the involved brand. Moreover, she hopes that the incident will serve as a reminder for all brands to prioritize transparency, commitment, and ethical practices in their partnerships.
