There is no such thing as “Filipino time” for many fans who lined up literally hours before the much-awaited “Superpowers” World Tour of Daniel Caesar at the World Trade Center in Pasay City last July 19. While this is already the Canadian R&B singer’s third time back in the country, first during “Wanderland” 2018 and his solo concert in 2019, the support and excitement from fans had only gotten better, so much so that fans did not mind the moody weather.
Official “Superpowers” World Tour merchandise was made available for fans, and there were notable personalities such as Moira Dela Torre, Kyle Echarri, PBA player Shaun Ildefonso and YouTuber Bella Racelis who were spotted at the concert.
Opening act Filipino rising R&B singer-songwriter Jason Dhakal was one to watch. He serenaded the audience with his laid-back tracks telling stories of love and life. He sang one of his hit songs entitled “manila,” which already had the audience singing their hearts out. Aside from sharing an unreleased song, the 23-year-old artist also revealed that he will be launching an album soon.
Finally, with a camcorder in his hand, Daniel Caesar starts the show with his song, “Ocho Rios.” From one song to another, Filipino fans loudly sang every lyric. The audience just got louder and louder especially after the singer joked, “You guys are shockingly quiet tonight.” But even so, he says that it is really good to be back and tells that the Filipino audience is the best. He shares that there is so much for him to say, but may be best for him to just sing it all.
He sang one of his latest songs, “Always,” which is part of his 2023 album, “Never Enough.”
Then, of course, he sang one of his well-known songs, “Best Part.” Although Filipino-blooded singer H.E.R., was not around to sing it with him, it was not a problem for the audience, who sang it with him, somewhat stealing the show during that point. There was also a couple who got engaged during the song.
“Isa pa!” and “One more song!” chants echoed in the World Trade Center after Daniel Caesar bid his goodbye. Thankfully, it was loud enough for the singer to hear! He went back to sing a few more songs starting with, “Japanese Denim.”
Daniel Caesar officially ended the show with the highly requested, “Get You,” as confetti showered the audience.
There will always be space for Daniel Caesar right where he left it.
