Yuji Nishida, Ran Takahashi, Rok Možič, set to return for VNL Pasay Leg

JAPAN stars Yuji Nishida, Ran Takahashi, and Slovenian Spiker Rok Možič head the pack of volleyball stars who will return for another leg of Volleyball Nations League (VNL) here in the Philippines.

Filipino volleyball fans are hyped for another run of VNL on July 4-9, 2023, at the Mall of Asia Arena, Pasay City. Powerhouse teams like Poland, Brazil, and Italy are also part of the PH tour, including Slovenia, Canada, Netherlands, and China.

The men’s national team of Japan received a warm welcome from the Filipino fans in last year’s VNL. Ace spiker Nishida even shared the support and cheers they got from the fans that got them going in the game.

Japan ended their previous Manila VNL stint with a 2-1 record and wins over Italy and Slovenia while falling short over France.

Week one of VNL has already started – and Japan is currently sitting atop the standings with an unbeatable record. The second week will take place in Rotterdam, Netherlands, and Orléans, France.

The Pasay leg will happen on the third week of the tournament, which will open with the Brazil vs. Italy matchup. The return of VNL is a significant milestone for the Philippines, as the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) recognizes the rising popularity of the sport here in our country.

Here is the video greeting of Team Japan inviting fans to watch VNL:

Due to the tremendous popularity of the Japanese team, a meet and greet will take place on July 3, a day before the tournament. Fans will have the opportunity to be up close and personal with the Japan squad as confirmed by Philippine National Volleyball Federation president Tats Suzara.

On the other hand, Slovenian star Rok Možič gained popularity with the Filipino fans after his 2022 performance. “The Filipino fans, when we were there, it was amazing. They still follow me, they write me a lot of messages.” Said Možič during a post-game interview. “I can’t wait to go there.” He added.

The Slovenian team is currently 6th in the standings with a 3-1 record. Five teams from number two to six have the same record, which makes it tough because the competition is tight and each game is as important as the next one.

Tickets are still available for the Pasay leg – there will be separate ticket sales for the July 3 meet and greet with team Japan. Fans can get their tickets at smtickets.com.
