A new ‘Big Bang Theory’ spinoff is being developed right now, in a world drowning in spinoffs

In recent times, there’s been an ongoing trend of either rebooting shows or creating spinoffs based on another show. Opting to profit on already existing IP instead of creating new and original shows and content. Shows like “CSI” and “Law and Order” spawning numerous iterations, and recent internet favorite “Better Call Saul.” But not all spinoffs guarantee the quality and success its source had.

Although great news for the show’s fans there seems to be another addition to the “Big Bang Theory” universe is in the works. However, this does beg the question of how much exposition and elaboration of the “Big Bang Theory” world is really necessary. In fact, of any show.

During Warner Bros. Discovery’s press day announcing its new streaming service, the company announced the new “Big Bang” project would stream on Max, Warner Bro.’s rebranded platform in combination with HBO Max and Discovery+.

Although there were no plot details revealed during the presentation. And nothing is officially confirmed, it’s speculated to be an hour-long series featuring a new cast with a possible appearance and cameo from known “Big Bang” stars and characters appearing in guest spots.

“The Big Bang Theory” and its spinoff “Young Sheldon” co-creator Chuck Lorre announced he is in the early stages of developing another comedy series derived from the IP via his deal with Warner Bros. Television.

Young Sheldon

The new “Big Bang” series will have Lorre executive produce via the Chuck Lorre Productions banner, marking his second project at Max. However, depending on the success of the possible new show, with “Young Sheldon” currently on its sixth season, with a seventh already greenlit, consistently being the most viewed comedy on air. There’s really not much stopping the people behind the shows from making a spinoff show for every character in the show.

There may come a time when we watch a spinoff show of a spinoff show, and to even barely understand it you’d have to watch 13 seasons of 3 different shows. But I bet there are fans who’d willingly go into that.
