Selena Gomez’s character in ‘The Wizards of Waverly Place’ is confirmed to be bisexual and the internet is all sorts of hurt

So, how are the girls and queers who grew up with Ms. Alex Russo feeling right now?

In the latest episode of the ‘Wizards of Waverly Pod’ podcast hosted by Jennifer Stone and David DeLuise, ‘The Wizards of Waverly Place” creator Peter Murrieta revealed that Alex Russo (played by Selena Gomez) and Stevie Nichols (played by Hayley Kiyoko) were supposed to be something more in the popular Disney sitcom.

Jennifer Stone, who had played Harper Finkle in the show, asked Murrieta the question, “What is a storyline you would have liked to have explored?” Murrieta answered it quickly by saying that he wished they could have played more with “what was quite obvious to a lot of us, which was the relationship between Stevie and Alex,” to which both Stone and DeLuise immediately agreed to.

The three also agreed that the show wasn’t at the time where LGBTQ+ characters were quite explored yet, and lamented on the fact that the dynamic between Stevie and Alex could have made for a great plot line for the show.

Fans of the show were ecstatic (to say the least) that this long-standing theory is finally canon and confirmed by one of the original showrunners and had a lot of feelings to unpack—from sheer happiness, to finally being seen and validated all those years ago.
