This is why it’s important to know the significance of different symbols in history.
Earlier on March 21, 2023, TWICE’s Chaeyoung posted a photo of herself on Instagram, wearing a Sid Vicious T-Shirt with a visible Swastika symbol on the front. Upon seeing the post, ONCEs were quick to voice their discontent and grievances towards the TWICE member and her ignorance.

there is literally no defending her atp… “punk activist band shirt” or whatever the hell you’re all saying is NO EXCUSE. it is a well known HATE SYMBOL and to see her so casually walking around in it is extremely disheartening.

You can’t sit here and tell me chaeyoung don’t know what a n*zi symbol is at her big age…y’all try to make it seem like Koreans are babies like they learned abt WWII too…be so fr

Hours after posting and after seeing the fans’ reactions, Chaeyoung took down her post and then uploaded an apology in Korean and English.
“Hello, this is Chaeyoung from TWICE.
I sincerely apologize regarding the Instagram post. I didn’t correctly recognize the meaning of the tilted swastika in the t-shirt I wore.
I deeply apologize for not thoroughly reviewing it, causing concern. I will pay absolute attention in the future to prevent any situation similar from happening again.
Sincerely apologize again.”
ONCEs also thanked Chaeyoung for immediately seeing her mistake and for apologizing quickly. However, K-Pop fans are still alarmed at how problematic symbols can go overlooked in the K-Pop industry, beginning with stylists. Others also pointed out the differences between the apologies of Chaeyooung and Tzuyu, where the latter was subject to immense hate in 2016 for simply waving the flag of her homeland (Taiwan).

To all the ONCEs trying to cover up this issue, I hope y'all don't sleep with both eyes closed. This goes BEYOND K-pop. Whether Chaeyoung is aware or not, she NEEDS to be informed why she can't casually wear clothing that displays the Nazi swastika. HOLD YOUR FAVES ACCOUNTABLE! https://t.co/32wvA7xUsb
