Many use it to protect themselves from air pollution during their commute. Some use it as a means to protect others from their incessant coughing.

There are even a few who use it for aesthetic reasons.

However, when you wear these face masks outside of the country, you might cause some heads to turn. This is exactly what happened to a group of Japanese tourists earlier this week who went to an Asda supermarket in Merseyside, England for some groceries while wearing surgical masks.

As one grocery shopper explained to UK news station One Stop News: “I immediately thought that this was some sort of terrorist operation in place and could see other people were getting really anxious. My family were genuinely frightened.”

Whatever your opinion on the situation may be, just remember: Don’t be too quick to judge any situation you see.
