Andrew Garfield announces acting hiatus

Andrew Garfield is going to take a break from acting for an undisclosed amount of time. In an interview with Variety, he says, “I’m going to rest for a little bit.” It’s understandable for Garfield, who has been working hard on his acting career for the past year and more with award-winning movies like The Eyes of Tammy Faye, Tick, Tick … Boom! and, of course, Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Garfield continues as he says, “I need to recalibrate and reconsider what I want to do next and who I want to be and just be a bit of a person for awhile. Because as you know, that is a washing machine, that awards season. I need to just be a bit ordinary for a while.”

Aside from all the exhaustion of working on three movies in one year, Garfield also lost his mother while working on The Eyes of Tammy Faye and Tick, Tick … Boom!, something that still affects him. It’s possible that it affected his decision to take a break.

His last gig before he rests for a bit is that of a new FX limited series called Under the Banner of Heaven. Andrew Garfield plays a Mormon detective who has to investigate the murder of a mother and her daughter by followers of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This is not the first time Garfield has played in a religious type of movie or series, as he’s played a missionary in 2016’s Silence and was a Seventh-day Adventist soldier in Hacksaw Ridge.
