Miles Morales, our beloved web-slinger from Brooklyn is teaming up with the smartest character in Marvel comics, Moon Girl. They’ll appear in a new series: Miles Morales and Moon Girl #1.
Lunella Lafayette – aka Moon Girl, and her T-rex companion, Devil Dinosaur will star in a series of one-shots that will be released this 2022. The series will pair the 9-year-old super-genius with some of Marvel’s most recognizable names. She’ll tour the Marvel universe alongside heroes from the Avengers, X-Men, and more. This one-shot series will cement her place in the Marvel Universe and also introduce her to new readers. It will all start off with Miles Morales and Moon Girl #1, which will come out on June 1 and will be written by Mohale Mashigo and illustrated by Ig Guara.
Mashigo expressed her joy in writing a story for Moon Girl. “Writing Moon Girl is a dream come true. Lunella is fun, quirky, smart and full of energy. I’ve enjoyed seeing her get out of her comfort zone and shine even brighter.”
Marvel released the cover art for Miles Morales and Moon Girl #1, made by Alitha Martinez. There’s also a variant cover by Peach Momoko.
For those unfamiliar with Moon Girl, she was first introduced and paired with Devil Dinosaur back in 2015’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur by Amy Reed. In that story, the 9-year-old accidentally opens up a portal to an alternate earth, and Devil Dinosaur goes through the said portal. The giant red T-rex is fueled with revenge for a fallen friend, but Lunella discovers that she has Inhuman powers and can sync her consciousness with Devil Dinosaur. They become best friends and the pair set out to protect New York.
It’s interesting to note that Lunella is technically the smartest Marvel character out there – she’s actually smarter than the likes of Tony Stark, Bruce Banner, and Mr. Fantastic. The title of “smartest character” also shook up the egotistical villain Dr. Doom, who feels like he earned that luxury. With Miles Morales and Moon Girl #1 coming out this June, Lunella will probably prove to more readers that she deserves that title.
