The Gundam statue in Odaiba is being taken down… and replaced with a new one

First announced late last year, the removal of the giant Gundam statue in Odaiba, Tokyo has begun. Photos of the 18-meter tall RX-78-2 model being taken apart has surfaced online. Here are some of them:

A giant hit not just with fans of the franchise but with tourists as well, the statue was installed in its current location in April 2012. Aside from this, Bandai Namco Holdings Inc. announced that the Gundam Front Tokyo theme park in Odaiba will also be closed next month.

Fans should not worry, however, as the company recently announced that a new Gundam statue will be installed in its place. The Gundam RX-78-2 will be replaced with a 1/1 scale of the Unicorn Gundam set to be unveiled Fall 2017.
