In celebration of National Arts Month, Young Professionals for Agricultural Development (YPARD) and UP Broadway Company (UPBC), in cooperation with the UPLB Office for Initiatives in Culture and the Arts (OICA), will be staging “Agra: A New Musical”.

“Agra” takes inspiration from the stories and issues surrounding Philippine agriculture, and retells it in the agrarian fantasy world of the kingdoms forming the land of Lakapati.

Agra, a princess of Farmaya, is torn between her strong-willed radical sister Sonia and her dominating conservative father Ekono. To create a compromise, she invents Siporia, an enhanced rice species, in the hopes of restoring her family and her kingdom’s old greatness. All the while the land of Lakapati braces itself for the coming onslaught of a deadly pest.

The play hopes to advocate the importance of Philippine agriculture among young people while also encouraging them to find their purpose in the service of the greater good.

The play is written by Jessa Jael Arana, and Gracetine Magpantay and directed by CAS Department of Humanities professor, Aileen Dela Cruz. It also features performances from Maxine Ramos and Jayne Caranto (Agra), AJ Marquez and Giselle Barrientos (Sonia), Third Alub and Jules Rivera (Yiro), Salvador Lleno Jr. and Gab Carreon (Hener), and Raffi Canilas (Ekono).

Witness this one of a kind initiative on March 14-15, 1PM and 7PM at the DL Umali Auditorium, University of the Philippines Los Baños. Admission is free.
