Strap on your BlasTech DL-44 blaster pistols, rebels! The official teaser trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has arrived and it looks so damn good.
It starts off with a haunting piano rendition of the Tales Of A Jedi Knight motif. We then hear a man’s voice giving a rundown of lead character Jyn Erso’s past offenses followed by Mon Mothma describing her character background: alone since the age of 15, reckless, aggressive, and undisciplined. Clearly rebel material.
This is followed by Jyn answering, “This is a rebellion, isn’t it? I rebel,” over clips of her kicking Stormtrooper ass amidst fiery explosions.
Mon Mothma then goes on about having a mission for her, describing an imminent major weapons test which they need to uncover and destroy. Since it’s no secret that Rogue One’s plot is about the theft of the Death Star’s plans prior to events in A New Hope, we get an ominous glimpse of the moon-sized space station with Star Destroyers hovering around it.
We are then presented with flashy action scenes meant to tell us that Rogue One is going to be one epic addition to the Star Wars canon: Rebel pilots! Stormtroopers! A samurai twirling his sword like a boss! Black troopers shooting at things! Explosions! Things burning! A mysterious cloaked figure! Some more rebels running! AT-ATs blasting rebels running! It’s everything you could ever ask for in a Star Wars movie.
Unless you asked for Ewoks.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story opens across the Philippines on December 16, 2016 and is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures through Columbia Pictures.
