BAYANIBOTO 2016: A Senatorial Forum

Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines (TOSP)

The Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines (TOSP) awards program is considered as the most prestigious search for young role models of the country. It is known for giving honor to outstanding college students who have exhibited academic excellence, leadership, and a deep sense of social responsibility, anchored on good moral values. Since its founding on June 1961 by Mr. Jose Concepcion, Jr., TOSP has evolved and is stronger than ever because of its various regional and national alumni communities who continuously spread the organization’s credo – learning, leading and serving for life.

The Outstanding Students of the Philippines Alumni Community – National Capital Region (TOSPAC-NCR), in particular, recognizes the importance of youth participation in the electoral process and in this upcoming national elections. In 2013, TOSPAC-NCR created BayaniBoto, a voters’ engagement campaign as its response to the challenge of developing a fully informed electorate. The goal of Bayaniboto, since its inception, has been to educate youth voters and inspire them to go above and beyond their duty to vote because they believe that “ang bawat kabataang bumuboto, bayani”.

BayaniBoto 2016: A Senatorial Forum

This year, TOSPAC-NCR is partnering with YouthVote Philippines, Simbahang Lingkod ng Bayan and Adamson University, in reviving BayaniBoto through a Senatorial Forum, with the goal of introducing the Senatorial candidates and their platforms, and opening a dialogue with them regarding the youth’s most pressing issues. The said organizations all agree that electing the right senators is equally important as choosing the right next president and vice president of the country.

The BayaniBoto 2016: Senatorial Forum will be held on March 12, 2016 (Saturday) at the Adamson University Theater of Adamson University from 1 pm to 5 pm. Confirmed senatorial candidates participating include Valenzuela City 1st District Representative Sherwin Gatchalian, former Manila Councilor Greco Belgica, former MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino, Accomplished Lawyer Lorna Kapunan and former Energy Secretary Jericho Petilla, who will be explaining their detailed plans should they be elected. Aside from invited student delegates from different colleges and universities in Metro Manila, the half-day forum is open to all registered voters, whether college students or young professionals. An online pre-registration was opened for those who were interested to join.
