What you’re missing out on Iloilo’s Dinagyang Festival

It’s been a lively and colourful few days over at Iloilo for the annual Dinagyang Festival! Tourists from all over the world gather for the event celebrated in honor of the Sto. Niño.

The festival has three major events. There’s the pageant, Miss Iloilo Dinagyang, the Kasadyahan Cultural Competition, a parade featuring students’ performances highlighting Western Visayas culture and the Ati Tribe Competition, where performers paint their skin black and devote a choreographed “warrior” dance to their god.

If you’re on #TeamBahay like us, then you should peep the super fun events you’re missing out on this one-of-a-kind festival!

There would be brilliantly choreographed dancing, just like this one at the Opening Salvo….

Seriously though, just look at this surreal routine at the Ati Tribe Competition seemingly inspired by the music video to Lazy Song (or Planet of the Apes!)

They make flying look so easy to pull off! (Ikot ikot lang…)

And what about this spectacular show of lights and sounds in the pyrolympics competition Luces in the Sky?

The festival even has its own official mascot?! This QTP2T is Dagoy, a young Aeta warrior.

Catch the Ati Tribe Competition which happens this January 24, at 8 AM.
