Cosplay is a popular hobby of dressing up as a specific character from an anime, a cartoon, a comic book, a video game, or a live-action film. The term “cosplay” is a portmanteau of the phrase “costume play” and was first coined in Japan in 1984. Since then, cosplaying has been popular among otakus and has played a significant role in Japanese pop culture.
Cosplayers are usually between 13 to 40 years old. But this photographer mom decided to introduce her daughter to cosplaying at a very early age — too early even for her to know what cosplaying is!
Laura Izumikawa dresses up her baby named Joey during naptime, takes a picture, and uploads it on Instagram. At times, she also uploads behind-the-scenes for every shot.
Behind the shot: Anyone obsessed with #StrangerThings like I am?? If you haven't seen it already, do yourself a favor and WATCH IT. Couldn't believe we already had the perfect pink dress and Eggos at home for this #eleven look! | Joey went down in record time today. 1 minute! Must be all that mind-fighting with the demogorgon.🐉
What she wasn’t expecting was that her posts will eventually become viral. At the moment, she has over 600K followers on her Instagram and also released a photo book called “Naptime with Joey” featuring the different shots of her daughter all dressed up.
Check out some of her baby’s adorable “napping cosplay” looks!
Eleven – Stranger Things
Exactly one year ago on this day I posted this photo and then we went viral. This picture alone changed our family's lives in such a dramatic way in a short period of time. We didn't plan it. It just happened. When I look back at this image I'm reminded not of the fame that came with it but rather all of the real blessings we received so undeservingly. The new friendships we got to make through all of this, the countless heartfelt stories we read from loving strangers who wrote us from all over the world, the worldwide community of moms who reached out to me to encourage me and pray for us even though we never met and of course new opportunities to highlight others who more deservingly need the attention for the good work they are doing for this world. We are incredibly grateful to have this platform to bring joy to people's lives through our silly photos and videos. So thank you all for following our little family's journey through all of this. We can't express enough our gratitude for all of your support. We love you! (Oh and check out my Stories for a couple blooper images of this costume. 😆) #StrangerThings #Eleven
