Late-night TV hosts poke fun at Trump’s ‘fake news’ awards announcement

In case you’re not following Donald Trump on Twitter (who could blame you?), he recently tweeted that he’s going to  announce “THE MOST DISHONEST & CORRUPT MEDIA AWARDS OF THE YEAR” next week. We’re not kidding. Here’s the tweet:

This is hardly the most outrageous of all his tweets as president. Case in point: the tweet that came before this one, in which he actually insisted that he had a much bigger nuclear button than North Korea’s Kim Jong Un.

Or this holiday tweet, in which he states that global warming isn’t real since it’s getting very chilly:

BTW: Global warming is the rising of the earth’s temperature and climate, and it is very real. Weather and climate are two different things. Weather is what you’re experiencing right now, while climate is the broader trends that make certain weather experiences more or less likely. Therefore, just because you’re experiencing extremely cold weather doesn’t mean that the earth’s climate isn’t warming. Here’s a map to show you just how warm it’s getting.

Of course, late-night talk show hosts couldn’t help but poke fun at Trump’s “fake news” awards. Stephen Colbert, host of The Late Show, made sure that the president didn’t forget to include him in the nominations by putting up a giant “for your consideration” billboard in Times Square.

Colbert also tweeted out the ad and said that he’s expecting to see news anchor Anderson Cooper on the red carpet of #TheFakies:

During his show, Colbert said that he’s very excited for the awards because “nothing gives you more credibility than Donald Trump calling you a liar.” Watch the clip below:

Other late-night hosts also wanted to have their names up for consideration and made their own ads. The Daily Show tweeted out a “for your consideration” photo of their current host, Trevor Noah:

Noah tweeted out:

Jimmy Kimmel of Jimmy Kimmel Live talked about the announcement during his monologue and said that it sounded like “somebody’s been in the White House laundry room eating tide pods again” and that “The Stupid People’s Choice Awards is what they’re calling it.”

Kimmel also asked whether Trump will be “physically able to give a trophy to someone other than himself”. You can watch the video below:

Other people on Twitter also reacted to the tweet:

Donald Trump hasn’t reacted to these jokes yet, but we know what we’ll be looking forward to next week.
