UP JMA capped off its flagship event MarkEd 2017: Marketing the Next Big Solution

The UP Junior Marketing Association (UP JMA) has capped off its flagship event, MarkEd 2017: Marketing the Next Big Solution last November 26, 2017. This year, MarkEd aimed to support social startups – that is, startups driven by their social responsibility efforts. It was a two-part event consisting of two Pop-Up Lectures and a two-day Culminating Summit and Competition, which highlighted the use of marketing as a tool for positive social change. From the Lectures to the Summit, it garnered a total of 250 participants from high schools all over Metro Manila.

In an effort to make marketing education more accessible, MarkEd 2017 held two lectures around the Metro. It featured talks from various speakers who spoke about topics that ranged from basics about startups to what marketing is like today, and how it’s applied in the real world. Below is the speaker line-up for the lectures:

North Pop-Up Lecture (November 11, 2017) in Xavier School, San Juan

Darla Bautista – Assistant Brand Manager, Procter and Gamble

Marco Del Valle – Product Associate, Bioflu, Unilab

Joan Hwang – Brand Manager of Kiehls, L’Oreal Philippines

Diego Manalastas – Co-Founder and CEO, WeLink Networks and Mica Innovations

South Pop-Up Lecture (November 18, 2017) in Hall One, Pasay

Louie Lee – Marketing Professor, UP College of Business Administration

Nanais Hernandez – Digital Strategist, McCann Erickson

Mio Chongson – President and Chief Operating Officer, Ace Saatchi & Saatchi

RJ Ledesma – Co-Founder and Chairman, Mercato Centrale Philippines

MarkEd 2017 partnered with 4 social startups: Tralulu, Project Lily, Tejo and SIP PH. Each startup provided a case about their company where participants created a feasible and effective marketing plan from. During the summit itself, students from different schools learned from plenary talks as well as breakout mentorship sessions, which further supplemented their knowledge on marketing and helped further refine their case proposals for the competition. Below is the line-up of speakers for the Summit:

Summit and Competition (November 25-26, 2017) in National Institute of Physics, UP Diliman

Jolly Estraris – Industry Manager for Advertising, Google Philippines

Jerald Adrian Sze – Found and Managing Director, Straightforward Clothing

Alex Fong – Business Development Manager, AKABA Ltd. Design Co.

Anton Diaz – Founder, Our Awesome Planet
