Chris Sports holds SKLZ Workshop Series 2017

Prepare to be ready. This mantra has been at the heart of SKLZ, a brand that prepares athletes to be ready for their sport with equipment and programs used at home and in training environments.

Founded in 2002, SKLZ continues to offer a wide range of innovative products for warm-up, recovery, performance, and sports, such as basketball and football.

Last 2016, a two-day SKLZ event consisting of basketball, football, and performance and recovery workshops were held by Chris Sports, the brand’s exclusive distributor in the country.

Michael Cummings

With its success and Chris Sports’ continuing effort to provide education and harness passion in sports and fitness, a new series of workshops was held from October 11 to October 14. This time, it was at the helm of SKLZ and EXOS performance coach Michael Cummings.

“Chris Sports comes in as a SKLZ partner, bringing in the equipment and tools that are needed for training athletes. We help in education to enhance knowledge and training methodology,” said Chris Sports Managing Director Gilbert Tang.

Among the workshops facilitated by Cummings were performance workshops for fitness coaches and instructors from Anytime Fitness.

A football performance workshop (opened to a limited number of football coaches, players, and enthusiasts) was co-hosted by Kaya FC Academy.

Basketball performance workshops were co-hosted by Best Center Sports Inc. and Filipino Basketball Academy respectively.

Fitness coaches, physical therapists, and athletes across the country showed up for the main events: the SKLZ Optimal Performance Workshop and the SKLZ Strength and Speed Workshop.

On October 13, the SKLZ Optimal Performance Workshop was held, focusing on warming up, dynamic stretching, and reactive training.

“The objective was to reintroduce a new way of warming up, consisting of how to use diaphragmatic breathing and adjusting the pillar as the way to bring out the best in your client or your athlete,” shared Cummings.

“We moved on to some movement preparation as a way to specifically warm up the body and getting it ready for activity or what that client or athlete will engage in.”

The SKLZ Strength and Speed Workshop last October 14 focused on pillar preparation, movement preparation, acceleration, absolute speed, and multidirectional speed training.

The said workshop was approved by the American Council on Exercise (ACE) which entitled each registrant to 0.6 CEC points.

Asked about his experience working with coaches and athletes from the Philippines, Cummings had plenty to say about their enthusiasm and willingness to enrich their knowledge.

“I’ve noticed that the application of the sciences and the movement modalities have been well adopted,” said Cummings.

“Fitness coaches are very excited to just educate themselves and learn new ideas and concepts to help them be better. We at SKLZ and the concept brought to you by EXOS have really been a great way of doing that.”

Chris Sports is slated to hold more workshops dedicated to coaches and athletes of all skill levels in the coming years.
