Tu Pug Imatuy (The Right To Kill) wins best film at Sinag Maynila 2017

TWO BEST ACTOR WINNERS and ONE BEST SUPPORTING PERFORMANCE awarded this season

Sinag Maynila Film Festival recognized the award-winning entries and the creative minds behind these reel masterpieces at the Gabi ng Parangal held at the Samsung Hall, SM Aura last March 12. This season, the jurors were UP Film Institute faculty and UP College of Mass Communications Dean Rolando Tolentino; art historian, critic and professor at the University of the Philippines Patrick Flores; French film critic and historian, specializing in Japanese and Asian cinemas Max Tessier; lawyer and film critic Oggs Cruz; commercial and film director and producer Paul Soriano; and Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) chairwoman Liza Diño-Seguerra.

 

First to be awarded was the Short Film and Documentary categories juried by Soriano, Tolentino, and Flores. Aliens Ata by Karl Glenn Barit and Hango by Avelino Mark Balmes Jr. won these categories respectively. For the Full-Length category, here are the list of awards and winners:

Best Cinematography: BRYAN JIMENEZ & ARBI BARBARONA – “Tu Pug Imatuy”
Best Musical Score: ARBI BARBARONA – “Tu Pug Imatuy”
Best Sound: ALBERT MICHAEL IDIOMA – “Kristo”
Best Editing: DIEGO MARX DOBLES – “Kristo”

Special awards were also given to Bhoy Intsik by Joel Lamangan for Sinag Box Office Award as the top grossing film and Beyond the Block by Ricardo Carranza for SM People’s Choice Award based on a survey tallied from March 9 to 12. This season of Sinag Maynila Film Festival officially concluded yesterday, March 14, 2017.
