Alas, the year is about to draw to a close! What better way to end the year than with a quick rundown of some of our highlights for 2016?
1. January: InqPOP! set to launch new things this 2016
After months of experimentation, InqPOP! is finally ready to tackle the next 11 months with a more solid direction.
2. February: InqPOP! Sessions debuts with Clara Benin
Here’s to the very first thing InqPOP! launched this year: InqPOP! Sessions
We still didn’t know how to go about doing InqPOP! Sessions — and it shows! We shot our first guest, Clara Benin, against a green screen with barely any idea what we were doing. InqPOP! Sessions was initially conceived as a once-a-month show until we finally hit our stride in July. Since then, we’ve been a regular weekly show — sometimes with 2 to 3 episodes per week!
3. March: InqPOP! launches its official Facebook Page and YouTube Channel
Because some of the stuff we’ve been putting out were deemed too risqué to be included in INQUIRER.net’s social media accounts, InqPOP! came up with its own Facebook page and YouTube channel in March. If you haven’t checked them out yet, shame shame shame!
4. April: InqPOP! Facebook page reaches 3K Likes
After 30 days, InqPOP! hits 3K followers on our newly put-up Facebook page! In a world of 300k-follower accounts, that’s almost nothing, but it’s never stopped us from celebrating this tiny success!
5. May: InqPOP! turns 1 year old!
Happy first birthday, InqPOP!
Unbeknownst to most people, InqPOP! has been up and running for a year already by this time. But we were too busy trying to get our bearings we even forgot our own birthday!
6. June: Guyito gets a badass makeover
We needed a mascot so we borrowed Inquirer’s beloved mascot, Guyito, and gave him an InqPOP!-worthy makeover. He turned out pretty dapper, but still ready to rock and brawl.
7. July: InqPOP! Twitter account gets its most popular tweet ever
We never expected this one tweet to get 47, 689 impressions, 796 retweets, and 1,166 likes. Thank you, Bangtan Boys!
The “Most Popular Tweet Award” goes to…
8. August: InqPOPxCinemalaya 2016
We were honored to have had the chance to partner up with the 12th Cinemalaya film festival. We enjoyed reviewing all the awesome independent films made by our kababayans. #PinoyPride
9. September: We were invited to the German Film Week + InqPOP! Sessions FB Live views reaches 1k
When we were invited to cover the first run of the German Film Week here in the Philippines, we had to restrain ourselves from yelling, “Shut up and take our articles!” We don’t only bring the best in Pinoy indie film scene but even from German Indie films.
But that’s not all, for the first time since its launch, InqPOP! Sessions has finally broken the 1,000-views-per-episode mark! And we’ve been consistent ever since. Thank you, everyone!
10. October: We’ve got comics!
In the spirit of experimentation, we came out with our very first comic strip with the cheesy title What the POP! Comix. Sure it wasn’t that good or funny yet, but that’s what we’re all about: trying out ideas, making mistakes, and learning how to do it right along the way. We’ve come up with a lot more comic strips since then, but they no longer carried the “What the POP! Comix” title.
11. November: This Must Be POP! Concert ranks 7 in the list of trending topics on Twitter — InqPOP! Twitter account takes 4th spot in Twitter Leaderboard
November was hell-month for us as we were tasked by the bosses to officially launch InqPOP! with a concert event. Despite massive hurdles, we managed to pull off our This Must Be POP! concert last November 24 which ranked 7th in the list of trending topics on Twitter that night.
Aaaaand! InqPOP!’s Twitter account ranked 4th on the Daily Twitter Leaderboard as well!
12. December: InqPOP! Facebook page reaches 10K likes
Christmas came early for InqPOP! with the official Facebook page reaching 10K likes! At last! Woo-hoo!
So let’s all say:
We couldn’t have made it without you guys!
